Details

buddycloud channels is an application for your mobile phone that lets you broadcast your expertise or interest in a certain subject in a topic-specific channel. people interested in this topic get a chance to subscribe to your channel and contribute their piece. By sharing your various locations as meaningful placemarks over the day you and your followers become part of each other's every-day life. All based on the buddycloud mobile social location platform and open API.
buddycloud adds context to the places you visit in the real world and makes it fun and easy to share these in your channels as well as push them to sites like Twitter and Facebook automatically.
As a buddycloud channels user, you can bookmark and tag locations that mean something to you. For example: Home, The Pub, Joe's House and Favourite Coffee Shop. As you move around, buddycloud automatically places you back at previously saved placemarks, and updates your followers on buddycloud, Facebook and Twitter. It also shows you other people and places nearby. And it lets you push short status messages to twitter.

Express yourself

Where next?

Broadcast your intentions. buddycloud let's you show your followers where you go next. Choose from one of your placemarks, "Starbucks", or enter free form, "Anyone up for a coffee now?"
Your name counts

buddycloud lets you show your personality by how your choose to name your places. To you it may be "My Castle". When your friends visit, they name it "John's dump". buddycloud gives you flexibility in naming.
Show your non-buddycloud crowd what's up

buddycloud hooks into Twitter and Facebook. Update your status or change places? Updates are pushed to your followers on both of these networks. We're also working on connecting to other networks.

Location

GPS-free

buddycloud can work without a GPS. The buddycloud "Location Butler" is hyper-effective at getting your location without needing to turn on your phone's GPS chip. No GPS means no battery drain. buddycloud uses multiple location sources: cell towers, WiFi, GPS and Bluethooth can be used in combination. This means that it works well indoors where GPS based solutions fail.
Nearby

buddycloud's location butler will always show you the 10 nearest people so that you can meet with your followers for a coffee or beer.
You are in control

buddycloud enables you to publish your location. We don't do "tracking". You push your location to who you want.
Broad and specific location

You control the level of location detail to show. Either display City and Country level data, or the bar name, street address and city.
Longer battery life

buddycloud is designed to use as little battery power as possible. In GSM mode on a E71 it will run for two days without needing a recharge! That means you are connected to your followers longer. (We have put together a page about maximising buddycloud battery life to help you stay online longer)
SMS your location

We realise that not all your followers are using buddycloud, which is why buddycloud gives you the ability to SMS your current location with an address, and map link to other people. Easy. Done.
Works indoors

The average person spends 80% of their time indoors. Perhaps more in Winter. GPS's don't work indoors. Buddycloud's location engine is designed to user cell-towers and WiFi so it works all the time.

Communicate well

Immediate messages

buddycloud enables you to simply quickly message your friends or interesting people nearby.
#tags

Wanna tweet something and have it indexable? buddycloud preserves your #tags and sends them to twitter for topic indexing.
@replies

Need we say more? Of course these are supported!
Ultra-low-bandwidth

You pay for your mobile data. That's why buddycloud was designed to use as little data as possible. And it does. It's super-ultra-mega efficient and currently uses about 30KB per hour. That means that if you were to run buddycloud intensly for 24hours, you will still use less than 1Mb for the entire day.
Underground operations

buddycloud lets you update your status and send messages while offline or away mobile coverage, queue them up, and send them once you leave the London Underground or return from hiking in the distant mountains.
Multilingual

Thanks to the the buddycloud community, the client works in many languages. Users from around the world have helped translate buddycloud into their own language. buddycloud now supports 13 languages with more being added all the time.
